An Oakland Wedding Before the 2020 Shutdown | Oakland Wedding Photographer

This blog post was written on March 13, 2020 - literally right before everything shutdown, the first time … and life as we knew it… changed & some has stayed the same since the first SIP. We are now in our second SIP (although when this is finally published, the second SIP order has been lifted and vaccine roll outs have started) and a great many of our favorite shops, venues and restaurants are - sadly, no longer around. I am always so excited and so happy to hear/know that some have been able to pivot and keep their businesses open and especially when the shutdown had loosened and that businesses joined together to be able to stay afloat (like bars connecting with small restaurants and pop ups etc - creating outdoor seating and parklets - and many more collaborations).

When Cecilia & David emailed me about the possibility of photographing their wedding celebration at the Starline Social club in Oakland (which sadly is now no more) - I was beyond excited and thankful that their wedding planner, Brianna of Eras Collective Events, recommended me!

We chatted about our love of bourbon and horror movies (and at the time we were talking about Parasite - which later won an Oscar!) and what they do for a living - they are just amazing humans and I was so lucky to have met them and photograph their big day.

In our meeting - Cecilia actually mentioned that she was hesitant to hire a photographer for their wedding, but it was David who wanted the day to be professionally captured. Nothing wrong with that at all, because it does seem like it would may be detract from the moments of the day if one had to worry or pay attention to someone with a camera- but in the end - they decided to go for it! And I’m sure glad she was open to having me there to capture it!

Their wedding was one of my last weddings and party-like gatherings of that year. It was SO much fun (like a freakin blast!) and I’m glad they can relive it through their photos. (And after the fact, Cecilia did make sure to mention - she was so very glad to have listened and hired a photographer to capture it- YAY!)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!
