Environmental Portraits + Family Sessions | Working Safely During this Pandemic

Hi Friends!

Today is my birthday!! And this post was actually written (and re-written back in August!) - and I really should start blogging more regularly but in the meantime here was something I cooked up a while ago.

Like many, my life + business/work has been greatly affected by this pandemic and SIP orders. And to add on top of that - “school” has started for my kids - and well….I’m not going to fully comment on that experience since we - including the teachers/schools are still trying to figure things out…(But trust me in that I have many, MANY opinions on the matter)

I’ve had to refund a few couples and have had to deal with the disappointment and guilt of having to use the “per our contract” on some of these cancellations (but I still tried to be fair and understanding and made some compromises while offering some alternative solutions). Thankful that I do have intimate weddings and sessions on the horizon that I am looking forward to, but most of my weddings will be in 2021 and even one in 2022!

When the counties started to re-open and allow outdoor businesses to conduct services again - I started to do outdoor sessions for families and individuals - while following health & safety protocols like maintaining a distance of at least 6ft and always wearing a mask. I’ve also been doing some more elopements, microweddings or minimonies (with the larger celebrations to be held when we can do so safely).

And to top that off - I also moved out of my teeny storage unit because an opportunity opened up at an artist community space for a slightly bigger space that could both serve as storage and a creative space. It’s still very small, and while I’m not even sure it was smart of me since my business hasn’t been pulling in as much or even enough income like it used to, it’s been great to have a separate space for creative work and also has been a nice space to have my kids there to explore all sorts of creative processes - from drawing, painting to even ceramics!

If you’ve also been following me on instagram and seen on my stories - I’ve been doing a lot of redecorating and purging at home and created a fake “walk-in” closet in our main bedroom and just started to redo our front room which is our kids playroom/ media room - more on that in stories soon!
