A Coastal Engagement

When asked what they most enjoyed doing together, R+P listed “going to gardens” and “hiking,” so off into the wilderness we traveled for their post-wedding, engagement-style photo shoot! This husband and wife, who met at a social dance class and began dating two years later, were married at City Hall months before this Autumn session, but they wished that they had professional photographs in the style of engagement photography to commemorate the year in which they got married. 

There is no right or wrong way to do engagement and wedding photography! Just because you “missed the chance” to take photos during your engagement, you can always hire a photographer to take couple photos afterward. Just because you didn’t have a photographer on your wedding day doesn’t mean you can’t give those wedding clothes another day in the spotlight and take bridal portraits months after the wedding. I encourage my clients to think outside the box and not to let the way things are normally done discourage them from the photo shoot of their dreams. 

I am thrilled that R+P didn’t! It was such a delight to be a bystander with a camera, capturing the moment as R played P a song on her ukulele while sitting on a bench in the forest or as they danced together on the beach as the fog rolled in. While we hoped for a brilliantly sunny day, the fog that hung low over our entire session gave a feeling of magic and drama unlike anything else, and it was as if R planned her outfits to match! Her bright red dress and rich, purple gown brought perfect pops of color to the scene, and P's green shirt, paired with R's mustard sweater matched flawlessly with the field in which they sat. Considering the colors found at your location while choosing outfits for a session can result in stunning photographs!
